Can you wear shoes on a yacht?
Mostly no (there are exceptions, ask us) On most yachts barefoot or with special boat shoes.
The reason is simple:
-
Protection of the sensitive deck (teak, GRP)
-
More safety (no slippery soles)
-
Better cleanliness on board
What shoes are allowed on a yacht?
✔ Allowed:
-
Barefoot
-
Boat shoes with a light-colored, non-slip sole that have not been worn on the street
✖ Not permitted:
-
Street shoes
-
Shoes with dark or hard soles
-
High heels or sandals with metal parts
Why is the shoe order so important?
Teak decks are fragile and extremely expensive to repair. Walking barefoot also increases surefootedness – especially in wet conditions.
👉 That’s why skippers usually ask you to take your shoes off as soon as you board.
Our recommendation
The shoe order is not a luxury, but standard on yachts – and ensures safety, comfort and value retention.
